Potent astrological timings
As we begin what promises to be another eventful year, I find myself reflecting on the subtle, yet profound, invitations the cosmos offers us for renewal and self-discovery.
The New Moon of February 17th was a signal for us to move into the new paradigms of the Aquarian Age. The solar eclipse on the same day also marks a wake up call to this time of shift. When these cosmological energies are combined with the Chinese New Year (the year of the Fire Horse) and the Saturn/Neptune conjunction on February 20th, we find ourselves accelerating into our shift in consciousness.
Saturn is the planet of control and authoritarianism, while Neptune dissolves and disintegrates. This conjunction hints at old paradigms and institutions casting off their outmoded concepts and values. The 2025 Chinese Year (the year of the Wood Snake) offers an apt metaphor as it sheds its skin to welcome in the New Year of the Fire Horse. Thierry Chow (Prestige Women of Power honouree 2021) has this to say about the Year of the Fire Horse:
This year, the heavenly stem is “Bing” (big sun) and the earthly branch is “Wu” (the Horse), making it the Year of the Fire Horse.
Bing represents the big sun, and the Horse, as a zodiac animal, is also a fire sign. So this is probably one of the most fiery years you will get.
Industries associated with the fire category will dominate — from technology to anything that generates energy and fire. Arts, fashion and cooking also rely heavily on fire. You can expect these sectors to get more attention.
The fire influence is going to impact both the weather and people’s temperaments — so the world should be on the lookout for more heat-related disasters this year, as well as heightened tensions in already heated relationships.
In the context of our ongoing collective shift in consciousness, these metaphysical beginnings are far from trivial. They serve as reminders that personal growth is not a one-time event but a continual process—one that mirrors the rhythms of the natural world. The New Moon offers us a metaphysical doorway, a chance to let go of old narratives and step into new possibilities, however tentative or uncertain they may feel at first.
